My Background

Artist Biography: Daniel Rankin is a 6th generation Florida native. Born and raised in the Sarasota area, he is a second-generation Firefighter and 24-year veteran Battalion Chief. Often referred to as "The Renaissance Man", Rankin is amongst many other things, an artist, musician, and chef. His artistic areas of interest include painting, sculpting, music, Costume Design, Prop Design, Film Making, writing, and Culinary Arts. Although he describes himself as being an "artistic chameleon, fully capable of adapting to the demands of any project", Dan attributes having worked in such a wide range of medium as the catalyst for enabling him to develop his own unique style. Rankin defines his style as a "spontaneous inner-reflective perspective emerging from the dynamic of the moment". His style enables him to strikingly capture the immediate reality as it is translated into a new dimension. The basis of his artistic creations is deep rooted in a life-long fascination with all of the senses.

My Background

I use many different mediums, such as acrylics, metal, clay, glass, resin, and crystals. I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style.

My Inspiration

Inspiration often appears when you least expect it. Therefore, cultivating inspiration may require allowing it to occur naturally through immersing yourself in nature, visiting new places, or being around inspiring people. Much of my art is directly influenced by my personal observations and experiences.
